HP6DSM - Phoenix simulator

Problem: In the Phoenix simulator, while using the HP6DSM (Blade SR variety), the pitch jumps from 0% to 100% at around 3/4 stick.

  1. This transmitter previously worked fully w/ Phoenix (both normal & idle-up).
  2. Started odd behavior after doing Phoenix calibration.
  3. Phoenix cable works perfectly w/ my x9503.
  4. DIP switches as follows: d-u-d-u-d-u-u-d-d-d.
  5. Pitch works correctly in normal mode when using Other > Eflite Blade CX2 as the transmitter (idle-up doesn't work correctly, but better than nothing).
  6. Recreated transmitter several times
  7. Recallibrated several times.

Here's a video of the issue:

Radd's School and More Crashes

It's been a while, so I figured I'd update the Heli Flyin' blog with my progress...  Well, I've successfully hovered for about a minute now, thanks mostly to Radd's School of Rotary Flight.  It is a nice set of lessons with the goal of helping newbie RC heli pilots become acquainted with their models and get a handle on the basics.  I

After completing all 10 batteries of the Radd's program I took the SR out to the Rosedale Park.  This is when I successfully hovered, actually several times, the longest being about a minute.  The wind was a bit more than I bargained for, and I crashed three times, but the only damage was to blades.

The next outing was less successful.  I went to an empty parking lot nearby and promptly wrecked after about 30 seconds of trying to hover.  The tail boom was "L" shaped, but I was able to bend it back to more or less straight.  I also broke the mixer arm from one of the blade grips.  This forced me to rebuild the head, so I totally redid everything with the MicroHeli CNC parts I had already purchased.  So far the following parts have been replaced on the SR...

  1. Replaced stock blades with stock blades.
  2. Replaced stock feathering shaft with stock feathering shaft.
  3. Replaced stock center hub with Precision CNC Center Hub from Microheli (MH-SR3002CH).
  4. Replaced stock blade grips with Precision CNC Blade Grips w/ Mixing Arms (BLUE) (MH-CP002BGPB).
  5. Replaced stock flybar cage with Precision CNC Flybar System (BLUE) (MH-SR072B).
  6. Replaced stock swashplate with Precision CNC Swashplate (MH-SR3012).

I also picked up a couple other parts from MicroHeli (all of which, btw, shipped from Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to NJ, USA in about 3 days - very impressive)...

  1. Precision High Quality CNC Delrin Main Gear W/Hub (MH-SR3102).
  2. FRP Carbon Fiber Main Blades (MH-CP088).

So far I haven't yet figured out how to get the pitch right - it's 5-6 degrees @ center stick!!  Maybe the swash needs to move up???  Hope to figure this out soon and be back flyin'!!!!

Maiden Flight

Sunday (2010-07-11) was the maiden flight of my Blade SR which resulted in a crash (shocking!).  Kellie and I went to the back entrance to Mercer County Park.  The flight lasted all of about 5 seconds.  I achieved about 10 feet of altitude when the SR banked hard right into the ground.  I'm not entirely sure the stock radio is set correctly - more likely I panicked.  The only damage appears to have been the main rotor blades, although the rudder blades have some grass stains ;)

Z&Z had some blades, so the SR is ready to go again...
